With the advent of the World Wide Web the global Internet has rapidly become the dominant type of computer network. It now enables people around the world to use the Web for E-Commerce and interactive entertainment applications, in addition to those already supported by the Internet such as e-mail and IP telephony. Gene Levine and Gary Priester have elevated stereograms to the leval of fine art. Priester's images are elegantly simple 3D stereograms that are easy to view with a border of floating objects that often represent the hidden object. Levine is the stereogram grand master. Gene painstakingly constructs images that are often so complex and wonderful you could spend days looking at just one image and stil miss the subtle detail.

Honestly I didn't think the 3D images would "come to life" on a computer screen, but in fact, it works better for me than on paper. There's a nice how-to for those who have trouble doing this, but all you have to do is put your nose to the monitor, cross/blur your eyes, then slowly pull away from the monitor while allowing your eyes to focus each time you pull away. Eventually the 3D image should come into view. Good luck!

Simplymaya - Chef Ramsay

In this new tutorial from Simply Maya you'll get to learn character/caricature modelling techniques like those used in major TV productions. Based upon character styling used in the Headcases TV show Jason has designed and drawn a caricature of the infamous foul tempered chef, Gordon Ramsay!

The tutorial begins with a look at reference material followed by basic creation of the character/caricature image planes within Maya. Instead of ploughing straight into the modelling of the characters facial features, we begin with the creation of the more simpler elements of the model that serve their purpose as a 'warm up' exercise using mainly polygons and Maya's standard modelling tools and then gradually building up to the more complicated task of creating a characters head from a polygon cube.

Once various parts of the model are complete the uv and texture mapping process is then covered , then its straight into Photoshop to create some 'light' and uncomplicated textures in order to keep to the cartoon styling of the character. The tutorial concludes with all parts of the model being finalised then brought together to form the finished character.
