Oracle SQL: Jumpstart with Examples (Paperback)
"As a consultant with more than 12 years of experience working with Oracle databases on a daily basis, reviewing this book was a unique and enjoyable experience. The SQL language is without doubt one of the most critical database skills and it is best learned by example. This book addresses that crucial need. Mr. Powell does an excellent job of clarifying the concepts by using meaningful and easy to understand examples. Frankly, I have not come across any other book on SQL that is as good a compilation of SQL concepts in a single source as this book. One comes across very few books that make a significant difference in your fundamental understanding of the subject. This is one such book if you want to understand a core database skill - SQL. This book deserves a place in your library and you will find it a great reference not only for learning SQL but also for learning data relationships, data organization, data analysis possibilities and so forth. I feel that the title, Oracle SQL: Jumpstart with Examples, might be too simplistic to describe the content. Read on, you will find the real value hidden inside this book." -- Ravi Sharma, Senior Principal Consultant

Mission Critical Windows 2000 Server Administration (Mission Critical Series) (Paperback)
Amazon.com Review
To put it in terms understandable to the many former English majors who now manage Windows networks: if Everyman were a system administrator, he'd run Windows 2000 Server. It supports pretty much any business requirement, yet it's user-friendly enough that anyone can learn to be an administrator with a bit of study. Mission Critical! Windows 2000 Server Administration explains how to set up and run Windows 2000 Server on a network. Its approach isn't oversimplified by any means, but neither is it bewildering. With lots of clearly written text and enough stepped procedures to satisfy those who just want to know how to accomplish a specific task, this book balances how-to facts with knowledge-building information.
The administrator's primary goals (maximizing the reliability of the system and minimizing the workload) are top of mind in this book. Technical details (say, configuring permissions for users and groups) are generally combined with a snippet of administrative advice (the merits of using special groups rather than restricting users individually). Each chapter concludes with question-and-answer sections that make great reading (typically, the answers reference related issues as well as responding to the question). The FAQs weren't thrown together to satisfy the publisher's formatting requirements; they are highly readable repositories of Windows 2000 wisdom. This book, though not meant as such, would help someone studying for the Microsoft certification tests on Windows 2000. --David Wall
Topics covered: Windows 2000 Server for system administrators. All widely used aspects of the operating system, including Active Directory, IntelliMirror, users and groups, the TCP/IP stack, and name resolution with Domain Name Service (DNS) and Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS). Security coverage includes the local machine and the local network, as well as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) under various tunneling protocols.
Product Description
This professional guide "cuts to the chase" and provides system administrators with the most important features of the operating system. There's no "hand-holding" - just high-level coverage of the critical components of Windows 2000 that system administrators must know.

While the benefits of the information revolution are enormous, so too are the risks you take when offering products, services, and information to your customers, employees, and business partners via your network. Now more than ever, taking the proper steps to ensure the integrity of your network is critical for protecting your most valuable asset: your data. Even so, most corporate and government networks are vulnerable to attack. Managing Cisco Network Security teaches you how to install, configure, operate, manage, and verify Cisco network security products and Cisco IOS(r) Software security features.
Managing Cisco Network Security focuses on implementing IP network security. Each chapter in the book presents a practical, task-based approach to implementing the security features discussed through a running case study of a hypothetical company that builds a network security architecture from the ground up. Divided into six parts, the book begins with an overview of network security threats and helps you identify the causes of network security problems. Part I also contains information that teaches you how to establish network security policies and secure the network infrastructure. Part II describes methods for securing remote dial-in access using CiscoSecure ACS and Cisco IOS Software AAA security features. Part III focuses on protecting Internet access by identifying the basic components of a perimeter security system and configuring perimeter routers and the Cisco PIX(r) Firewall Feature set. Part IV introduces you to the features and components of the PIX Firewall, presenting details on how to configure essential PIX Firewall features. Part V examines Cisco Encryption Technology, and shows you how to configure Cisco Encryption Technology to ensure data privacy. In Part VI, you will learn how to implement a secure virtual private network (VPN) solution using IPSec features as well as how to use intrusion detection and network auditing tools. In addition to the running case study, Managing Cisco Network Security contains a wealth of configuration examples, command summaries, helpful tables and diagrams, and chapter-ending review questions.
Managing Cisco Network Security is part of a recommended study program from Cisco Systems that includes simulation and hands-on training from authorized Cisco Learning Partners and self-study products from Cisco Press. To find out more about instructor-led, e-learning, and hands-on instruction offered by authorized Cisco Learning Partners, please visit cisco/go/authorizedtraining.
